09/10/2020 update, from SFC, Jacob Wuest:
Welcome to this year's SSC! As most of you know, we will be conducting all of our SSC meetings on Zoom this year and all information (both for council members and the public) will be in digital form as well. I have created an "app" that will give you all of the resources you will need for SSC including dates, agendas, bylaws, etc. and I have attached instructions with both the link to this app and how to create the app version on your phones for easy access.
I wanted to let you know that at this moment our first meeting has been changed from this coming Monday the 14th to Monday the 28th. This is because we are waiting for our ELAC Committee to get up and running before we can begin. When it gets closer to our first meeting date, I will try to send reminders out.
The Zoom links for the meetings will not be made public, so make sure to keep an eye out for my emails with the meeting information!
This virtual format is different for all of this year, so please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the process, the app, the Zoom meetings or anything else.
The School Site Council (SSC) is intended to be a decision-making body that represents all stakeholders of the school community. The school principal, teachers, other school personnel, and parents / grandparents make up this group. Their primary responsibility is to identify common goals and assist the leadership team in establishing a plan to achieve the goals. The key to a successful SSC depends upon a good working relationship among all members of the Council. Each member of the Council shares their unique perspective and knowledge of the school’s needs, as they affect all students, during SSC meetings. The principal and teachers contribute background knowledge in instructional practices; parents provide the insights on how effective the school is working and how well their children understand their assignments; and support staff also offer insight on the range and effectiveness of learning opportunities available. Other personnel at the school, such as counselors, instructional aides and clerical staff can share insights on how the school can function to support student learning.
